and migrants.
Organizational Context and Scope:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Shelter/NFI Officer at IOM Burundi the incumbent will be required to work as a member of a multi sectoral team to support the provision of Shelter, Housing Land and Property and Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) relief assistance to population on the move and host communities The incumbent will be based in the IOM office in Ruyigi and will assist to implement field activities related to Shelter/NFI/WASH and HLP.
FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in and support the implementation of Shelter, NFI, WASH & HLP activities in the field in compliance with the work plan, approved designs, project
specifications, IOM rules and regulations (data protection, Do no Harm)
2. Follow up with field activities closely to maintain their quality including but not limited to the targeting of beneficiaries, in collaboration with the procurement team and the supervisor, assist with the planning of material distribution, assist with the coordination with local authorities, the orientation of Shelter/NFI/WASH focal points in the field, support the implementation of community consultations and other community engagement activities related to HLP programming, update work plan etc.
3. Support the promotion of the HLP rights of population on the move and hostcommunities in line with project priorities and facilitate access to land through
stakeholders and community engagement
4. Participate to the targeting, verification of beneficiary lists, and activities monitoring in coordination with the direct supervisor
5. Facilitate the regular updating of monitoring documents (beneficiaries’ list, activitytracker) for HLP, Shelter, NFI and WASH activities in the field under the supervision
of the direct supervisor
6. Conduct regular visits to project implementation communes and hills.
7. Draft status reports, prepare minutes of meetings, travel requests, purchase requisitions and other documents, as required by the management.
8. Support consistent and documented post-distribution monitoring after HLP/Shelter/NFI/WASH activities at household level.
9. Contribute to harmony within the IOM office and in the area of assignment.
10. Carry out any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Education and Experience:
• University degree in Social Sciences, International Development, International Studies / Relations, Law or relevant field from a recognized institution or relevant field from a recognized institution, with 2 years of relevant experience or;
• Completed high school degree from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience in working with UN projects highly desirable
• Previous experience in implementing HLP and SNFI programme in an international environment is an advantage.
• Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
• Ability to work quickly and accurately and pay attention to detail.
• Willingness to assist efficiently in a very busy project environment.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
Languages
• Fluency in French in Kirundi is required (oral and written).
• Working knowledge of English

Burundi has been an IOM Member State since 2007. In 2010, Burundi and IOM signed a cooperation agreement that led to the establishment of an IOM Mission in Burundi.
The mission works closely with the Government of Burundi in implementing the core migration-related challenges in the country. The Organization’s current main activities in Burundi are related to:
Refugee resettlement and reintegration. IOM works in close collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Burundi to make the refugee resettlement to third countries a reality and as least arduous as possible. While UNHCR is responsible for ensuring the protection of refugees, IOM facilitates their movement to third countries.
Refugee assistance. Since 2002 to date, approximately half a million refugees were registered by UNHCR to return to Burundi from different countries. In addition, the country still has an estimated 100,000 IDPs. While a significant number of refugees have been assisted to return – which now poses an additional challenge to the country – there have been efforts to ensure that the Burundian Diaspora is increasingly engaged in the ongoing socio-economic and political processes in the country, and specifically in the current global and regional dialogue processes on migration and …
